hello-up for your consideration­ is vintage Motorola dynaTac 8000 series phone not sure if its an x,s or m its been a long long time since I bought it . It was around 1989 a friend and I had just started a commercial contract cleaning company and thought this celluar mobile phone was just the thing to give us and edge to impress prospective clients. Only one problem-it cost 3,699 dollars we sold my friends car and maxed out two credit cards to get it. I remember my dad was furious when i showed it to him "why on earth would a couple of janitors need a 4,000 dollar cellular phone" I said we are not janitors-its­ a commercial contact cleaning bussiness dad ,company's pay big money having their building cleaned, yeah right he said "janitors&q­uot; maybe he was right the business went belly up afew years later I let my partner keep the phone after all we had sold his car to get the thing. About 10 years later i was helping him move and i found the phone in a box of stuff he said he had gotten another phone and no long used it " I said well then I'm taken it back he said" what ever "- well later that evening we went out to dinner"­ my payment for helping him move i guess",anyh­ow we went to a new restaurant in San Francisco called "Jardiniere­" over on grove street after we sit down I look over and the table next to us were two guys and one of them was Micheal Douglas! one of my favorite actors! the other one I think was Oliver Stone but I'm not sure. Any how I though how cool would it be to get his autograph, I had never really seen a movie star up close in person -then it hit me I got that phone in my car-which looks just like the one he had in the movie "wall street"­ in 1987 I think -which is where I first saw that phone that I just had to have,I ran out to the car and grabbed it and darted back in,it took a few mins before i got up the nerve to go over to him but I said "i'm not going to miss this chance to ask him to sign my "janitor's­ phone" well he was very nice when i approached him for an autograph ,he laughed when i handed him the phone and said "how would you like me to sign this Gordan or Douglas"­ I said either one sir -he's a great guy very friendly we chatted for about 3 min -he said he was in town filming a movie called " the game" with Sean Penn. I lost the charger to the phone and never used it a after it was signed-its been wrapped on bubble wrap sitting in the attic for years-only recently I found out people collect these motorola brick phones from the eight's-My wife try ed to throw it out awhile back calling it" junk" I took it to a pawn shop once and the guy said he would give my 20 bucks for it since it was autographed by Micheal Douglas "assuming­ the autograph was real he said" I was there I told him when he signed it-he said he needed some sort of" documentation­ " that it was legit -I said just forget it for 20 bucks i'll hold on to it-the other day I logged on to ebay and see these vintage brick phones going for a few hundred bucks in some cases-I am hoping to get enough to send my son on a mini vacation this summer before he heads off to college in Aug he deserves it -so the phone with the autograph should maybe be worth maybe 200.00 I hope -it comes with a nice fitted case. But no charger just the phone with anntena.-when­ new battery allowed for a call up to 60 minutes, after which it was necessary to charge the phone up to 10 hours
Its in really minty shape no real signs of wear-no markings,cracks,­very clean I am mostly selling it as a collectable vintage cell phone not as a working phone(even though it most likely is) but i don't think you can use these with todays networks. its a nice conversation­ piece to have to sit on your bar everyone wants to know about it when they see it-" the janitor"s­ cell phone EBAY Item number: 120739636111­
