New Evidence Ups The Ante On Fruit And Vegetable Intake Recommendations­ for Heart Health To 8 Servings Per Day!

The importance of fruits and vegetable consumption for overall health, maximal longevity, and warding off chronic disease is well known. We've been told for years now that we need to "strive­ for five" servings every day. But new research published in the European Heart Journal just raised the bar to 8 or more servings each day. They point out that the evidence from an observational­ study of over 300,000 people shows a 22% lower risk of dying from heart disease for those eating 8 servings of fruits and vegetables compared to those eating less than 3 servings a day.

The cardio-protectiv­e benefits of fruits and vegetables really aren't all that surprising. Thousands of studies have correlated the nutrients in fruits and vegetables with health, vitality, and longevity. It's an established fact that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is important for long-term health and functional longevity.
