Interstate vs. Local Movers There is a big difference in licensing between interstate and local movers. Local movers are licensed by the State of California, while interstate movers are licensed by the US DOT. It is illegal for a local mover to cross state lines, and likewise, it is illegal for an interstate mover NOT to cross state lines. Some movers will be licensed for both intrastate (Within California) and interstate (within US). Make sure to choose a mover who is licensed for the move you are doing.
